A SOLUTION TO TRAFFIC IN KAPAA An easy, cost effective way to end traffic going South on Kuhio Hwy is to create 2 lanes going South 24/7 from Fire station in Kapaa to the Airport. The main jam is before the bypass road in Kapaa and Kuamouu road. Yes, you may need to do some changes from the North lane side but paint is cheaper than building a new Southbound lane. Your are almost doing it now with lane cones until 11:00 AM going South.

Heard back from our Kauai District. Simply restriping would not leave enough room for travel lanes and shoulders. The Short Term Improvements would also add a turning lane at Haleilio. The contract to add the additional southbound lane on Kuhio Highway between the Temporary Kapaa Bypass and Kuamoo Road has been executed and we are awaiting approval on our archaeological End of Fieldwork Report before we can start. Construction duration after the project start is estimated at 18 – 24 months.
