Virtual ‘Aina Meetings (Round 2) : July 6 - July 27, 2020

This virtual community workshop is the third and final round of Aina Meetings for the Farrington Highway Corridor Study. It includes a recorded presentation as well as a “virtual open house” with information on community input to date and proposed solutions for safety, congestion, and resilience along Farrington Highway.

How To Participate:

1. Watch the video presentation to hear an update on the project, a re-cap of community input to date, and explanation of solutions being proposed for community input.  

2. Review virtual open house materials and let us know your thoughts and ideas on the proposed solutions described for each of the three neighborhoods (Makaha-Waianae, Maili, Nanakuli).

3. Participate in a live virtual Q&A with the project team on

    July 16, 5:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. - Wai‘anae/Makaha

    July 24, 12 p.m. to 1 p.m. - Nanakuli/Ma‘ili

    Idea: Waianae drain study focus is on the wrong intersection

    Your focus for the drain study in Waianae is on the wrong intersection. It's the intersection of Farrington and Lualualei Homestead Road that needs the drains to be addressed. Every time there is rain it ponds there, on Lualualei Homestead Road, 7-11 side.

    Idea: Six lanes from hakimo road to kapolei

    Please implement the six lanes from Hakimo road to Kapolei as it is a project already designated by OMPO. The people of the westside of Oahu is at an emergency when it comes to our traffic problems. All it takes is one accident to shut down our entry or exit out of the westside. There is no other options, no bypass roads and the Emergency Access Roads is a waster of taxpayers money. Somehow the nanakuli village intersection was a priority over the rest of the corridor why can’t we get the same treatment for other intersections on our coast??? How is it that Kapolei and Honokai Hale can get brand new street signs, new roads and they are fairly new compared to Farrington Highway, we are still using the same four lanes since farrington highway was first built. We need change now!!!

    Idea: Makaha beach master plan

    Makaha beach master plan needs to be implemented in order to protect federally endangered species. The road needs to be rerouted around the Muli wai and kili drive which is a private road that needs to be purchased by the City. Water needs to be restored to the streams in order to protect the federally endangered species. The use of the two bridges on Farrington highway is obsolete. To include the area around the two bridges contains iwi kupuna which will be disturbed if you continue with the project. The Makaha beach master plan is in line with the needs of the community and will meet future expectations of climate change as we are taking the bridge and road away from the water and moving it further inland.
